President Xi Jinping called on the Group of G20 members to help developing countries and disadvantaged groups to adapt to digital transformation in an effort to narrow the digital divide between the developed and developing countries.
“China will continue to work with the Group of 20 members to foster a balanced, coordinated and inclusive global digital economic paradigm that brings benefits to all and features win-win cooperation and shared prosperity,” President Xi Jinping said at the17th G20 Summit in Indonesia’s resort island of Bali.
Xi reminded the summit that in 2016, China includeddigital economy in the G20 agenda for the first timeduring the hosting of the G20 summit in Hangzhou.African commentators commended China’s concern to speak for the developing and disadvantaged countries. “China is almost a developed country by all standards, but the leadership always has a big heart to think about countries that are disadvantaged. This is leadership with a humanity concern,” an African political analyst told Africa China Review.
In the recently concluded 20th CPC National Congress, the five year planning was not only about the development of China towards national rejuvenation, it also included an agenda for supporting developing countries without any conditions. Commenting on the expectations of the world on the 20th CPC National Congress Syrian Ambassador to China Mhd. Hasanein Khaddam told media that,”we are looking for changes in the current world order that will give space to third world countries to be heard and participate in global governance. All developing countries look to China for inspiration and an expectation for a fairer world,” he said.
Ambassador Khaddam further said that many other policies promoted by Chinese President Xi have attracted the attention of the whole world, which include building confidence in China’s cultural and social heritage, focusing on scientific approaches in learning and building the country, and preserving the environment and green ecology.
China’s unique path to modernization is not a journey that the country wants to walk alone. China has launched the initiative of building a digital Silk Road, and has identified digital economy as a key area of cooperation under the Global Development Initiative. When Xi talks about shared prosperity and shared future for mankind, is a clear manifestation of China’s commitment to a global developmental outlook aimed at improving the wellbeing of humanity without discrimination.
