World news today is dominated by the ongoing war between Israel forces and Hamas. Since the conflict broke up, more than death toll of Palestinians from Israeli s8,005 Palestinians are reportedly killed while more than 20,000have been injured, while an estimated  1,400 Israelis were killed, especially during the surprise Hamas offensive that occurred three weeks ago. It is estimated also that about 230 Israelites both military and civilians are being held captive by Hamas.

Unlike the U.S which has taken sides with Israel similar to the Russia- Ukraine war where the US supports Ukraine with billions of dollars in military hardware acquisition, China has called for peaceful solution of the two conflicts without taking sides.

Chinese president Xi Jinping called for the two sides to prioritize reaching a ceasefire agreement to avoid the conflict from expanding or even spiraling out of control and causing a serious humanitarian crisis. The Chinese leader made the comments while meeting with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, who was in Beijing, to attend the Belt and Road Initiative Forum.

Zhai Jun, China’s special envoy in the Middle East said that China is willing to do “whatever is conducive” to promote dialogue, secure a ceasefire and restore peace. President Xi Jinping believes that establishing “an independent state of Palestine” through a two-state solution is the “fundamental way out of” the conflict.

The UN General Assembly (UNGA) adopted a resolution on “Protection of civilians and upholding legal and humanitarian obligations,” which was supported by China, Russia, France, as well as Arab countries among other UNGA members, while the US, Israel and a few other countries voted against the resolution.
