China has made it clear supporting initiatives for peace and justice regarding the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The Chinese Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin,  said on Thursday that,  “China has always independently assessed the Ukraine issue on the basis of the historical context and the merits of the issue and always stands on the side of peace and justice.”

Wang in a regular press briefing refuted claims that response to claims by US Department of State spokesperson’s remarks that, “nations that side with Vladimir Putin will inevitably find themselves on the wrong side of history.” Instead, he said that the world can see clearly who stands on the right side.

Since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, US has supported NATO eastward expansion which has fueled conflict in Europe. The US has also supplied heavy artillery guns and other ammunitions to Ukraine, hence taking sides, which has prolonged the war, causing untold suffering and disrupting global food supply chain which in turn has triggered a global hike in food, fuel and consumer goods.  ON the other hand, China actively advocates for a common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security concept.

When the U.S. poured oil on the fire of the Ukraine conflict, China actively urged peace and promoted talks, stressing the international community should support Russia and Ukraine in continuing talks, Wang added.

Wang further noted that China opposes the politicization, instrumentalization and weaponization of the world, while fruits of decades of efforts in international economic cooperation should not be ruined.

In a recent phone call between Xi and Putin, the Chinese leader emphasized that,  “China is also willing to work with Russia to promote solidarity and cooperation among emerging market countries … and push for the development of the international order and global governance towards a more just and reasonable direction.”

The US has persistently called on world countries including China to condemn Russia as the aggressor in the war with Ukraine, neglecting to take into consideration Russia’s security concerns.
