Taiwan, an inalienable part of China and any attempt to halt the complete process of reunification is bound to fail. “It is a historic mission of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the Chinese government and the Chinese people to achieve this goal”, said the Chinese Ambassador to Rwanda Wang Xuekun accompanied by his deputy Ms. Lin Hang.
In a policy briefing on Friday in the Rwandan capital Kigali, ambassador Wang stressed that the Taiwan question is about China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and a concern of Chinese people’s feeling and sentiments.
The Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te Alias William Lai, hasclaimed he will be sworn in as a leader of “Independent Taiwan,” which is likely to set a dangerous precedent for the security situation across the Taiwan Strait.
By declaring “Taiwan Independence” Lai Ching-te will be following a wrong path of history since Taiwan from time immemorial has been a part of China. The move does not seem to be of interest to the people of Taiwan, but Lai, is working to please the west especially the United States, which has is trying to usethe territory for its geopolitical interests aimed atdestabilizing and containing China. Such treacherous move will not succeed as it has failed in the previous years.
Although there have been several high level discussion between China and US officials on the question of Taiwan, the US side in theory claims to abide by the One-China Principle, yet in practice, makes political meetings with Taiwan leader. Sells arms to Taiwan in violation of China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Secondly, in 1971, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted resolution 2758 that restored all rights of the Peoples’ Republic of China (PRC) to the UN, expelling the representatives of Chiang Kai-shek from unlawfully occupying the UN and in all the organizations related to UN. Consequently, the UN regards Taiwan as a province of China. To date, 183 countries have established diplomatic relations with the PRC based on the One-China Principle which represents the universal consensus of the international community.
Ambassador Wang Xuekun, clarified that before the invasion of China by the Japanese, Taiwan was never a question. “China’s feudal dynasties had administered the Penghu Islands, an archipelago of 90 islands near Taiwan for over 600 years and the Island of Taiwan over 300 years. The fact that Taiwan is a part of China is indisputable. In 1895, the Qing dynasty ruling China lost the war to Japan and was forced to cede Taiwan, Penghu and other affiliated islands to Japan, together with the Liaodong Peninsula, and that cession is the root of the question of Taiwan.”
The Taiwan question is an internal problem of the Chinese people and the solution lies with the Chinese people rather than foreigners who are behind the push for “Taiwan independence.” Foreign forces have for a long time tried to divide China with the purpose of weakening and sabotaging the progress so far achieved.
Josep Borrell, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, while speaking to Foreign Policy magazine recently, called on the EU not to recognize any attempts aimed at creating “Taiwan independence.” He pointed out that, “the bloc should be firm about ensuring that a military conflict does not break out over Taiwan, and that “It’s one single China. It means that we are not going to recognize the statehood of Taiwan.”
China continues to uphold the basic Principles of Peaceful Reunification and One Country, Two Systems, to promote the peaceful development of cross-strait relations, and to realize the bright prospects of peaceful reunification, Ambassador Wang Xuekunstressed.
