From poverty to prosperity; Xi Jinping on good governance

Reading the third volume of “Xi Jinping’s book: The Governance of China” has made to understand that a visionary leader will always find it easy to succeed and build his country with passion. Taking over from former President Hu Jintao, Xi Jinping knew how strong their leaders have been and how he too can continue to build on their successes and make sure that his Chinese dream is achieved by taking more than three hundred million people out of poverty to prosperity.

As it is know during the Chinese revolution President Xi had to leave Beijing with his family and went to live in a village where poverty was rife. He understands what is poverty because he tasted it and want all Chinese to move away from it, by implementing programs that were able to change these people’s life and today less than 10 million people still battling with poverty. They would have been saved this year, but the wicked corona virus came and distracts President Xi, but I do believe that by the end of next year they would have been lifted out of poverty.

President was so determine to fight poverty because he was never happy to see the rich and average enjoying their lives in the major towns and cities whilst the poor languish in villages.

A solemn promise he leading the party made was to make sure that poor people and poor areas enter the moderately prosperous society together with the rest of the country. He believed that moderate prosperity must be genuine and not adulterated or exaggerated in any way, if it is to earn the people’s approval and stand the test of time.

He said “China is a society to be enjoyed by each and every one of us. On the march towards common prosperity, no one will be left behind. When we have defeated poverty in this generation, we will have brought to an end, once and for all, the extreme poverty that has shackled the Chinese nation for millennia. This will be a source of great pride.”

This is how a good leader thinks and talks. It is a basic requirement and core indicator in their poverty eradication effort that by 2020 they will succeed in delivering the Two Assurances and Three Guarantees (to ensure rural poor people do not have to worry about food and clothing and have access to compulsory education, basic medical services and safe housing) for impoverished rural residents. This is the key to success of the final stage of his fight against poverty.

President Xi knows and understands that the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is what will make them become greater and stronger with mutual respect and discipline in the country. Today, more than ever before, they are closer to, more confident of, and more capable of making the goal of national rejuvenation a reality. He believes that as long as all the Chinese people keep carrying forward this spirit of dreams, they can and will realize the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

“To realize national rejuvenation, China must advance with the times, and keep pressing forward. As our ancestors said, “If you can improve yourself in a day, do so each day, forever building on improvement. Hard work paints a bright backdrop for a young life. As Mao Zedong said, “Should I have 200 years to spare, I will surely swim for 1,500 km.”

In his book the Governance of China he said the mission of national rejuvenation must be achieved through hard work, as must the ideals of life. Without an arduous popular struggle, carried out especially by generations of young people, there would have been neither the present new era of Chinese socialism nor a future in which we will realize national rejuvenation.

The rejuvenation of the Chinese nation was not and is not an easy task due to outside pressure from the powers that be who saw China as a threat because they never believed that a socialist country would be so rich, discipline and prosperous. It will not be achieved by simply beating drums and gongs. They cannot overcome all the risks and challenges they face on the way forward without a true fighting spirit.

China’s past made its mark on human history; China’s present is being created by the hands of hundreds of millions of Chinese people; China’s future will be even brighter. All members of the CPC Party, the armed forces and the people of all ethnic groups should unite closer, stay true to their original aspiration and founding mission, and continue to consolidate and develop their People’s Republic. They should continue to enhance their efforts to achieve the two centenary goals and to realize the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation.

One thing that is clear about China is that their socialist system demonstrates great strength and vitality, and the Chinese people and the Chinese nation embrace brilliant prospects.

Xi said “Our Party shows strong, firm and vibrant leadership. Living in such a great era, we are all the more confident and proud, and also feel the heavy weight of responsibility upon us. It has been 96 years since the CPC was founded, 68 years since the People’s Republic of China was established, and 39 years since reform and opening up began.”

The CPC has united and led the Chinese people and the Chinese nation in ending “once and for all” the miserable plight of old China, which had been bullied by foreign aggressors following the Opium War of 1840, and in walking completely out of poverty and weakness. Indeed this is what many African countries must do in making sure their countries are united, devoid of tribe and region.

President Xi in his book described the congress as one of “remaining true to our original aspiration and their mission, holding high our banner, and forging ahead in solidarity.”

The congress approved a report of the 18th CPC Central Committee and a work report of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection. The congress adopted the revised Party Constitution which made Xi Jinping thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era as a new component of the Party’s guide for action. The congress also elected a new Central Committee and a new Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.

Since he took over as leader of China, Xi has called on all Chinese people to study, observe, apply and uphold the Party Constitution, and closely follow the CPC Central Committee in thinking, political orientation and actions.

“In our Party, each and every one of us must always breathe the same breath as the people, share the same future, and stay truly connected to them. The aspirations of the people to live a better life must always be the focus of our efforts and we must keep on striving with endless energy toward the great goal of national rejuvenation.”

It was the Chinese dream that President Xi started using in lifting his people from by the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. It embodies achieving prosperity for the country, renewal of the nation and happiness for the citizens. Only when the country is doing well, can the nation and people do well.

He emphasized that the Chinese Dream in essence means the dream of the people. The Chinese Dream is to let people enjoy better education, more stable employment, higher incomes, and greater degree of social security, better medical and health care, improved housing conditions and a better environment. With all this in place their children will grow up well, have satisfactory jobs and live better lives. Xi stressed that all the Chinese people who live in their great country at this great time have the opportunity to enjoy a successful life, the opportunity to realize one’s dream, and the opportunity to grow and progress together with the country.

Xi emphasized that the Chinese Dream is a dream for peace, development, cooperation and mutual benefit for all. It is connected to the beautiful dreams of the people in other countries. The Chinese Dream will not only benefit the Chinese people, but also people of all countries in the world. As I close, I want people to understand that the history of prosperous nations around the world will reveal that their success was only possible after a long struggle and resilience of their countrymen led by able leaders. If we study the political roadmap, way of life and especially the economy of the People’s Republic of China one would know that this great nation has started its journey from scratch and is leading by moral strength.

Think about what China was 70 years ago, essentially a country that had fought its way through two wars and was on its knees and battered,  but in these 71 years it emerged as the second biggest economy in the world and a major global player. China’s transformation from a poor agrarian society into one of the world’s most powerful economies is nothing short of miracle. China’s reforms have completely overhauled its economy, urbanized society and improved living standards.

Moreover, the modern China is carrying out a number of major measures, including significantly broadening market access, creating a more attractive investment environment, strengthening protection of intellectual property rights, and expanding imports.

The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) proposed by President Xi in 2013 is a momentous step by China to expand opening-up and external cooperation. This initiative is unfolding day by day and has the vision of linking China`s economy to the rest of the World.
