The recent remark by American president Joe Biden that “American leadership is what holds the world together,” has been widely refuted as a misrepresentation of facts and instead the role of the U.S leadership in world affairs is known and considered to be the opposite of Biden’s statement.”American leadership is what holds the world together”.  “American alliances are what keeps us, America, safe,” President Biden said during a recent national address. Biden said that he will ask Congress for more money to support Israel and Ukraine, claiming that “both nations were fighting enemies of democracy.”

As the world is looking forward to a peaceful resolution of the conflict, in the Israel- Hamas war, theU.S is pre occupied by sending troops and ammunitions to support Israel against Hamas. The U.S as a permanent member of the UN Security Council used its veto powers to block a draft resolution calling for a humanitarian truce in Gaza. The resolution that enjoyed overwhelming support within the Security Council was meant to call for a cease-fire which would enable humanitarian aid to reach thousands of people severe shortage of food, water and medicine.

The U.S administration in the Israel- Hamas war is only interested in geopolitical benefits rather than caring to rescue the people in Gaza faced with a humanitarian crisis. Most of the people in Gaza who are suffering do not belong to Hamas and therefore, the world should work together to come to their rescue rather than being starved and the injured denied medication. This is the same mistake that the U.S administration always makes, when it holds sanctions because of disagreement with certain leaders in other countries and call for sanctions. The sanctions affect more the ordinary people rather than the few leaders that the U.S claims to be targeting. However, the sanctions calculation is far more than that. The main intention is to make the citizens angry so that they can hate their leaders with the aim of causing a regime change. To a large extent, this has not worked in favourof the U.S but has created more suffering.

While the armed conflict between Ukraine and Russia still rages on, the U.S administration has openly fueled the conflict by providing military equipment and other war logistics estimated at 28 billion U.S dollars in the year 2023.  A country like China which the U.S prefers to classify among the “enemies of democracy” has been at the forefront of calling for a peaceful settlement of the Ukraine-Russia Conflict. China for example, released a white paper titled, “China’s Position on the Political Settlement of the Ukraine Crisis,” a twelve-point paper that calls for all parties to support dialogue between Russia and Ukraine to “gradually deescalate the situation.”

When U.S president Joe Biden claims that “American leadership is what holds the world together,” We should expect that he wants to re-write the world history by changing facts that are already known. The U.S as a military super power has used its military supremacy to wage wars against other countries. Examples include among other; Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, not mentioning numerous military operations and proxy wars unleashed on other countries. On what moral ground does Joe Biden stand to claim that the American leadership brings the world together? It is only a big and fat lie to the world.
