China on Monday vowed to work with all parties to build a community with a shared future for mankind and make new contributions to the sound development of the world human rights cause as Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi virtually addressed the high-level meeting of the 55th session of the Human Rights Council.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said protecting and promoting human rights is the common cause of all mankind while the international situation is becoming more volatile as crises and conflicts keep emerging and the deficit in global human rights governance is even more serious.

Calling for putting people first, Wang said more prominence and urgency should be given to the people’s right to subsistence and the right to development.

“We oppose interference in the internal affairs of other countries and curbing their development under the guise of human rights,” said Wang.

He also stressed the necessity of respecting the independent choice of countries on the path of human rights development. “We should insist on win-win cooperation and advocate dialogue to build consensus,” Wang added.

Touching on the ongoing Hamas-Israel conflict, Wang said it’s deplored that nearly 30,000 civilians have been killed and nearly 2 million people were displaced. “It is the common responsibility of the international community to protect the human rights of every ethnic group and every individual in a fair, equal and effective manner,” Wang said.

The top Chinese diplomat also emphasized that UN human rights bodies should work impartially and objectively, and uphold the principles of non-selectivity and non-politicization.

Multilateral human rights bodies should become a platform for constructive exchanges and cooperation among all parties, rather than a battleground for bloc politics and confrontation, he added.
