Sectors hailed as crucial to safeguarding well-being, fostering innovation and high-quality development

President Xi Jinping emphasized the need to make it a strategic priority to protect people’s health amid the nation’s development and called for efforts to fortify the country’s public health protection network and enhance public hospitals’ high-quality development.
Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, also called for building a high-quality education system to satisfy people’s demand for better education.
He made the remarks when participating in a meeting of national political advisers from the education, medical and healthcare sectors at the fourth session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, the country’s top political advisory body. He joined them in the discussions and heard their comments and suggestions.
Seven political advisers delivered speeches about such topics as improving the grassroots-level public health system, promoting the high-quality growth of traditional Chinese medicine, improving higher education and advancing public hospitals’ development.
