The 2026 Media Cooperation Forum on the Belt and Road Initiative, taking place in Fuzhou, Fujian, China, launched five initiatives, among which is one to deepen content sharing among the media organizations represented. The meeting brought together hundreds of media managers and executives from around the world.
The meeting also resolved to promote win-win cooperation, build consensus, embrace technological innovation, and deepen people-to-people exchange and understanding.
“The Belt and Road Initiative is about a better life,” said Mr. Hu Heping, Executive Deputy Head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee of China.
The BRI meeting was organised by China’s People’s Daily under the theme: “Pursuing Common Understandings and Aspirations: A Decade of Belt and Road Media Cooperation.”
The theme invited media institutions to build a future grounded in mutual respect, shared prosperity, and a deeper understanding among peoples.
Over the past decade, the BRI has created new opportunities for cooperation across continents. For Africa and China, these opportunities have opened conversations around infrastructure, trade, technology, education, development, and many more areas. Beyond physical connections, there is another connection between people, built through knowledge, dialogue, and trust.
Media collaboration can do more than simply report events; it can explain contexts, amplify diverse voices, challenge stereotypes, and bring societies closer through accurate and balanced storytelling.
A decade of Belt and Road Media Cooperation is both an achievement and a beginning. It offers an opportunity to move from simply reporting on one another to telling stories together, and from exchanging information to helping people experience its human value and the improvement of people’s lives.
Media must strive to take an active role in helping nations work together to build a shared future for mankind.
