China and other countries deliver statement to UN expected norms on international order

China together with more than a dozen countries, delivered a joint statement on international order to the independent expert on international order at the Human Rights Council48. The statement was delivered on September 20, 2021, by the Chinese ambassador to the United Nations H.E Chen Xu.

In the statement seen by Africa China Review, the group of countries argued for a democratic and equitable order in the promotion and protection of human rights. They called on all parties to practice true multilateralism and make the international order more just and equitable to effectively guarantee the full enjoyment of human rights. 

For fairness and justice to prevail, the group of countries called for   upholding UN-centered international system and the international order underpinned by international law, and opposes bullying, unilateralism and double standards. 

China and the group of countries requested for a dialogue and cooperation on the basis of equality and mutual respect. They also proposed to solve  differences through consultations and dialogue.

They called upon respect for independence of each country in maintaining their  own social system without influence of foreign models and resist from confrontational approaches. 

The countries advocated for “universality, impartiality, objectivity and non-selectivity, strengthen solidarity, cooperation and dialogue on an equal footing, and refrain from politicizing human rights issues or interfering in other countries’ internal affairs.” They also encouraged all states to work together in defending common values of humanity, by building a community with a shared future for human beings.

The statement was issued on behalf of; China, Cuba, DPRK, Indonesia, Iran, Nicaragua, Russian Federation, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tajikistan, Thailand, Venezuela, and Zimbabwe.
