China can be key in revitalizing multilateralism

What China has achieved – congratulations on the 75th anniversary – it has been awesomely amazing.

I really hope that the Chinese leadership continues to pursue a policy in favor of multilateralism. And if I could wish for anything, it would be that they would do it a little bit more vocally.

I understand the gentleness of the Chinese. I do appreciate it. But there is a vacuum there, and we need something. And I think China can be a really important part of what that something is, which is the revitalization of multilateral international organizations.

The international organizations have been really weakened. And I think there is a dangerous gap there. It showed a weakness. But it also shows the utter necessity of us moving back to the original ideas and articles which founded the United Nations. They are actually more important than ever before. And the voices of reason have to take hold. And we claim that ground of humanity is lost, because what we’re seeing now is a challenge for the whole of humanity as far as I’m concerned.

I would like to see a coordinated push for a revamped UN and for the rejuvenation of international law.

I do think the developments around BRICS countries, and the idea of an alternative to challenge the power and the destructive power of U.S. empire globally, particularly around the dollar and its ability to impose sanctions and pauperized and basically murder so many innocent people in countries that are “our enemies” and so on, and I think that is really welcome.

And I would like to see a development of an alternative global currency, of that idea of the BRICS being somewhere else that countries can go to, that they don’t have to be handcuffed to U.S. empire, that they can survive without that link.

I do think China can and is playing a good role there, but can do more. I’d really like to see a lot of work and effort being put into alternative structures of economic cooperation as well, which could be open to all. And I think that that would be helpful.

We all know that all of the powers are active in South America, they’re active in Africa and so on, and Europe always says, we are there promoting values, other people are promoting their interests, which is just laughable.

Everybody is there for their own interest. But China has managed to do it in the way which has been beneficial to the citizens of those countries. So the citizens of those countries can see that.

And I think cooperation with China shows how the relationship is of mutual benefits.
