It has been announced that on June 18, China will hold a conference and other events marking the anniversary of 70 years of Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. China being a country that advocates for having a peaceful world where all people are equal regardless of the economic status or geographical location of the countries of the world.

In 1953, Zhou Enlai, then Chinese Premier is credited for being the first to put forward the idea of the Fiveprinciples of Peaceful Coexistence at a time he was meeting an Indian delegation. The principles form the basis of how countries relate with each other, and makes the fundamental principles under the international law hinges on.

The Five Principles of Peaceful Co-Existence, namely; mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, mutual non-aggression, non-interference in each other’s internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit, and peaceful coexistence, if embraced and practiced by all countries in the world, our world would be a wonderful place to live in. The wars we see today in different parts of the world would be no more.

The conference and other commemorative events in Beijing are aimed at reminding the importance of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and a call to world countries to work together towards addressing global challenges that affect humanity as well as advocating for peace, development and cooperation.
