Long committed to policy research and coordination in global development, OECD has played a significant role in international economic cooperation, Premier Li said.

Over the 25 years since China and OECD started policy dialogues, the two sides have carried out two-way mutually beneficial exchanges and partnership of diverse forms along with the country’s development, he said.

Premier Li pointed out that the world is at a critical juncture both for fighting the COVID-19 epidemic and advancing economic recovery, while economic globalization faces new opportunities and challenges amid accelerated changes in the global governance system.

Each country should be encouraged to take necessary public health and economic measures in light of its own realities, and international collaboration should be deepened to jointly get through the pandemic, stabilize the economy and safeguard people’s livelihoods, he said.

The Premier also called for efforts to enhance coordination in macro-economic policies, maintain the stability of global industrial and supply chains, and relieve the difficulties facing developing countries, to push the world economy onto a path of steady rebound as soon as possible.

Premier Li said that China has comprehensively managed to implement epidemic control and prevention in the face of the severe situation, while achieving economic and social development. Measures taken by the country have effectively brought the epidemic under control, stabilized employment and economic fundamentals. As a result, China’s economy is confident of achieving positive growth this year.

China will respect the economic law and maintain the continuity, effectiveness and sustainability of macro-policies through macro adjustment and joint efforts with the market. Efforts will be made to ensure China’s economy operates within the reasonable range in a stable and sustainable manner, giving the market positive prospects, the Premier said.

According to the Premier, China is still the biggest developing country in the world, and development remains the foundation of and key to all existing problems. China will enhance the overall opening-up level and form a new development pattern to drive high-quality development.

Premier Li said that China is willing to deepen cooperation with all countries around the world, including developed ones, to further liberalize and facilitate trade and investment, in order to share development opportunities with the world and enjoy win-win results.

The Premier extended his hope that OECD can build on its advantages while upholding its principle of “better policy, better life” and foster a strong, sustainable, balanced and inclusive development throughout the world.
