China unveils CR450 high-speed train prototype capable of 450 km/h

A prototype of the CR450 high-speed train, capable of reaching 450 km/h, was unveiled in Beijing on Sunday, highlighting China’s advancements in operational speed, energy efficiency, interior noise reduction and braking performance.

According to its developer, China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. (China Railway), the CR450 has achieved a test speed of 450 km/h and an operational speed of 400 km/h.

Once commercially launched, the CR450 is expected to significantly reduce travel times, offering passengers a more efficient and convenient travel experience. Despite its higher speed, the train ensures enhanced safety with shorter braking distances and improved operational stability.

Energy efficiency has been optimized, with a 22 percent reduction in running resistance and a 10 percent decrease in overall weight.

Passengers can also look forward to a more comfortable journey, as interior noise levels have been reduced by 2 decibels and passenger space has been increased by 4 percent.

The CR450 incorporates intelligent upgrades in train control, driver interaction, safety monitoring and passenger services, representing a significant leap in technological innovation.

China Railway said that production of the prototype commenced in 2024. The process leveraged advanced intelligent manufacturing technologies and robust quality control measures to ensure the successful rollout of the CR450.
