The US foreign policy of blaming China for almost everything that does not go well has been consistent with different US administrations over time. But recently, the commemoration of “remembering heroes- 80th Anniversary of the Flying Tigers and America’s Second World War Air Defence of China Photo Expo,” tells of a different story in the history of China- US Cooperation.

In 1941, US General Chennault formed the Chinese Air Force and the United States Volunteer Air Force for China, commonly known as the Flying Tigers, to fight the Japanese aggressors together with the Chinese military and civilians.

At the opening ceremony of the exhibition Chinese ambassador to US Qin Gang noted that, “No one has the right to stoke conflicts and confrontation. The only right choice is mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation. We need to write more stories of cooperation like the Flying Tigers, for the wellbeing of the two peoples, and peace and stability of the world.”

During the era of the flying Tigers, China was weak both economically and militarily. Today, China is the second largest economy after the US, and the world’s top manufacturing hub. The two countries therefore, need each other in terms of trade, and other areas of cooperation.

However, this is not the case. The US instead of facing healthy competition resorts to pointing accusing fingures as an enemy. In his speech, ambassador Qin said that, “It has been 81 years since the Flying Tigers have seen tremendous changes in both China and the US, and the world today is totally different from how it was 81 years ago. The interests of China and the US have long been intertwined, but China-US relations are facing unprecedented challenges.”

“No one has the right to stoke conflicts and confrontation. The only right choice is mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation. We need to write more stories of cooperation like the Flying Tigers, for the wellbeing of the two peoples, and peace and stability of the world.”

Ambassador Qin Gang further said that China and US can write more stories of cooperation like the Flying Tigers for the benefit of the people of the two countries. As the Chinese and American soldiers as well as civilians fought together eight decades ago, the same spirit is possible today, which can lead to better cooperation rather than conflict and confrontation. The advancement of humanity can only take place when there is peaceful co- existence and shared development irrespective of different ideologies and political systems.
