China will eventually win the fight against COVID-19, and with the release of accumulated demand and the combination of policy effects, the Chinese economy is showing a strong momentum of growth, which will bring more benefits to the world including Singapore, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Saturday during a phone call with his Singaporean counterpart Vivian Balakrishnan.

In the phone call, Wang said that last month’s meeting between the two heads of state in Bangkok, Thailand has laid out strategic guidance for bilateral relations. As the world enters a period of turbulence and change and regional factors of instability and uncertainty increase, China and Singapore have stepped up communication and coordination to jointly meet these challenges, Wang said, adding this has not only safeguarded the two country’s interests but also contributed to the stability in the region and beyond.

“At the end of the Year, we should draw on successful experiences and continue to inject new impetus into the vigorous development of bilateral relations,” Wang told Balakrishnan.

Speaking highly of high-level interactions between the two sides and the important consensus and cooperation outcomes the two sides have achieved, Balakrishnansaid the upcoming resumption of direct flights between Singapore and Beijing will further facilitate personnel exchanges between the two countries, adding Singapore looks forward to preparing for the next phase of high-level interaction with the Chinese side and promoting greater development of bilateral relations.

Both sides also touched on the COVID-19 prevention situation in China. Balakrishnan praised China’s contribution to global cooperation in fighting the pandemic, adding China has a strong leadership system, mighty capacity for research and development and a well-built healthcare system, which will help China overcome new challenges and achieve accelerated economic and social recovery.

“Singapore is full of confidence for China and is willing to strengthen solidarity and cooperation with China in the spirit of brotherhood, ” Balakrishnan said.

Wang told his Singaporean counterpart that China will achieve the ultimate victory in the fight against COVID-19, continue to provide greater facilitation of people-to-people exchanges between China and abroad, and bring more benefits to mutually beneficial cooperation between China and other countries, including Singapore.
